Job Title Academic Advisor
Nature of Work

The Academic Advisor is responsible for advising program participants in providing them with assistance in the areas of guidance for classes and career paths for the Student Support Services (SSS) program. The Academic Advisor will create and implement workshops for resume building as well as career skills. The Academic Advisor will work with the Director on developing on post college career curriculum for all staff.

Examples of Work Performed

Essential Duties:
1. Provide academic and guidance to TRiO/SSS participants
2. Maintain student records and files
3. Provide guidance for resume building and career skills
4. Assist the Program Director to develop and implement and effective process for identification, recruitment, and retention of participants into the programs. ‘

Secondary Duties:
1. Assist with the TRiO/SSS Annual Performance Report
2. Provide ongoing training and information to CSC faculty and staff regarding the program services
3. Attend and participate in college activities
4. Other duties as assigned by Project Director

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field
Experience in implementation of programs for at risk students
Must demonstrate sensitivity to students from diverse educational and economic backgrounds
Valid driver’s license

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree
Experience in supervision, training, and teaching
Knowledge of teaching, training, counseling, management, and college advisement

Physical Demands

The physical requirements for this position may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the ability to use a computer, calculator, telephone, keyboard, and/or various types of office equipment.  Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats and satisfactorily perform the functions of this position.

Salary Information $20,045-$25,056 commensurate with qualifications.
