Job Title Assistant Director-Residence Life
Nature of Work

The primary objectives of the Residence Hall program at Chadron State College are to provide an atmosphere conducive to academic excellence, aid in the development of responsible student behavior and conduct and encourage qualities of cooperation among students. The Assistant Director of Residence Live also serves as a liaison between students and the Housing & Residence Life Office. The Assistant Director of Residence Life supervises one residence hall under the direction of the Associate Directors and the Director of Housing and Residence Life. The Assistant Director of Residence Life is a member of the Student Services staff.
Position will be required to live in an assigned residence hall and conduct regular office hours. The unique nature of this position may require duty hours on holidays, nights and weekends. “On-call” coverage, attendance at campus and residence life functions and ‘after hours’ emergency response is required as necessary. Desk and office work hours will be required. Summer work hours will be determined by supervisor.
Due to the time commitment, of this position, course enrollment must be approved by the supervisor.

Examples of Work Performed

Essential Duties:
1. Assist the Associate Directors with the following Departmental programs
a. Residential Life Resource Room
b. Resident Advisor selection and fall and spring training
c. Assist with implementing campus-wide programming that facilitates the growth of the individual and the group within a living, learning environment
d. Resident needs assessment
e. Leadership development
f. Other activities as assigned
2. Assist the Associate Directors with the supervision, training and evaluation of Resident Advisors
3. Confront and follow-up violations of college policy
4. Respond to emergency situations in the residence hall to ensure the safety and well being of students
5. Work irregular hours with on-call responsibilities
Secondary Duties:
1. Responsible for check-in/check-out procedures at the beginning and end of each semester
2. Hold and conduct Judicial Council for residence policy violators and complete necessary paperwork
3. Supervise student employees and keep such records as designated by the Associate Directors
4. Assist the Office of Residence Life Programs with maintenance or custodial problems
5. Maintain records of hall activities, programs and administrative procedures as designated by the Associate Directors
6. Assist with conference activities

Bachelor’s degree or related work experience

Physical Demands

The physical requirements for this position may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the ability to use a computer, calculator, telephone, keyboard, and/or various types of office equipment.  Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats and satisfactorily perform the functions of this position.
