Job Title Assoc Director- Housing & Residence Life
Nature of Work

The Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life serves as an integral part of the Housing and Residence Life senior leadership team and Student Affairs Department. Oversees the development and implementation of professional staff and training programs for all Residence Life Staff. Assists with the comprehensive student life programming efforts for resident students of the residence halls on campus. Participates in the formulation of departmental policies and implementing programs and procedures designed to provide a high level of service to resident students.

Examples of Work Performed

Essential Duties:
1. Residence Life Staff Supervision
A. Responsible for the selection, supervision and training of Residence Life Staff (Residence Hall Directors and Resident Advisors), as approved by the Director of Housing & Residence Life and the Senior Director of Student Affairs
B. Maintain pertinent records, i.e. Hall Director “on-duty” schedule, annual leave reporting and report such records to the Housing & Residence Life Office
C. Engage and motivate staff in programming efforts specific to the individual residence halls and needs of students housed in those halls
2. Housing & Residence Life Office
A. Assist the Director of Housing & Residence Life in implementing and enforcing the policies and regulations of Chadron State College and the Board of Trustees
B. Assist the Director of Housing & Residence Life and maintenance staff with addressing repair and maintenance concerns
C. Assist the Director of Housing & Residence Life in resolution of residence hall student issues
D. Responds to emergency situations in an efficient and effective manner to ensure the safety and well-being of residents. Work irregular hours and on-call responsibilities
3. Summer Conferences
A. To represent the Housing Office at planning meetings with the Conferencing Office and coordinate the housing arrangements for summer camps or conferences
B. Coordinates building and room assignments with the Conferencing Office, Director of Housing, Assistant Directors, and the Maintenance Department
C. Be available and provide staff with information needed during check-in and check-out
D. Check for damages immediately after group’s departure and inform Custodial Supervisor of rooms to be cleaned
E. Prepare an itemized bill and audit it with the Director of Housing and the Conferencing Office
F. Prepare a final report on each group to be placed in the Summer Conferences file, include such items as, copy of bill, special needs, problems encountered and recommendation for the next year
1. Programming and Student Development
A. In collaboration with the Associate Director of Residence Life, Director of Housing & Residence Life and the Senior Director of Student Affairs to develop the overall plan for the Residence Life Program
B. Assist Associate Director of Residence Life, with the development and coordination of a variety of involvement opportunities with the Assistant Directors of Residence Life and Resident Advisors designed for the development and retention of students. These include but are not limited to:
a. 1st Year Student Initiatives, Service Learning Projects, Leadership Development
b. Residence Hall Community Activities (educational, recreational and social)
C. Sponsor and maintain a high degree of involvement in the Residence Life Association
a. Serve as a liaison between students and the Housing & Residence Life Office and other campus departments
b. Assist and advise with the planning, budgeting and implementation of student activities and programs
D. Establish a strong rapport with residence hall students to assist them with adjusting to residence hall living in particular and college life in general
a. Work closely with the Residence Life Staff to implement policies and regulations of Chadron State College and the Board of Trustees
b. Coordinate the referral of students to CSC counselors, tutoring services, Director of Housing & Residence Life, Senior Director of Student Affairs and other CSC departments with the assistance of the Residence Life Staff
E. Oversee the Residence Hall judicial system
a. Coordinate with the CSC counselor’s referrals of students for alcohol education classes
b. Train and support the Residence Life Staff in the judicial process
c. Collaborate with the Director of Housing & Residence Life on Housing/Residence Life issues

Secondary Duties
1. Coordination of Activities with Colleagues
A. In conjunction with the Housing & Residence Life Office, perform duties relating to summer conferences including room assignments, key control, record maintenance, and associated paperwork
B. Committee membership as assigned by the Director of Housing & Residence Life, Senior Director of Student Affairs or President
C. Other job related duties as assigned by the Director of Housing & Residence Life

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree
Ability to relate to a diverse population and effective communication and interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in Residence Life and/or counseling/student services
Previous supervisory experience

Physical Demands

The physical requirements for this position may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the ability to use a computer, calculator, telephone, keyboard, and/or various types of office equipment.  Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats and satisfactorily perform the functions of this position.
