Job Title IT Specialist
Nature of Work

Provide IT services to meet campus infrastructure and client needs. Support and troubleshoot the desktop, physical network, application software and server environments. Provide skilled troubleshooting of high technical ability. Apply security for end user access. Research, test and implement new technology. Recommend changes to enhance IT support. Provide guidance to the IT Technicians and IT Support positions.

Examples of Work Performed

Essential Duties:
Support and troubleshoot the desktop, physical network, application software and server environments as assigned. Create images, install, connect and test new hardware in campus offices and network closets. Migrate user files from existing to new computers. Maintain inventory records. Provide support to the application software team including but not limited to ERP software, web services, e-mail and collaboration software. Oversee physical and virtual servers as assigned which could include print servers, backup servers, imaging servers, active directory servers, network monitoring, web servers, ftp servers, e-mail, security camera, voice over IP, etc.
Provide skilled troubleshooting of high technical ability. Provide responsive effective communication with end users, technical staff, and vendor partners. Transfer knowledge to bordering technical positions. Document actions in help desk records.
Apply security for end user access. Monitor workflow and application of security standards. Work with IT staff and vendor partners to ensure security policies and structure is maintained for the virtual and physical protection of the campus network, servers, desktops, and applications. Report immediately suspected or identified areas of weakness.
Research, test and implement new technology as assigned and including the areas of desktop, software application, server, and network support.
Recommend changes to enhance IT support to improve customer service and process efficiency.
Provide guidance to the IT Technicians and IT Support positions. Act as a trusted reliable and collegial resource to advance the knowledge of staff in these positions as well as student employees.
Oversee assignments to student workers, technicians, and support staff. Assist with hiring, training, and oversight of student assistants as assigned.
Work on the assigned Information Technology Department team to provide a high performing campus infrastructure and exceptional client service. Participate on technical and functional teams to develop collaborative based results with a customer service focus
Ensure adherence to IT, campus, and NSCS policies.

Secondary Duties:
1. Provide basic computer training to employees
2. Other job related duties as assigned by the CIO

Required Qualifications

Major course work in computer science or related field which can be applied to a Bachelor’s degree
Minimum of one year of work experience in the field of computers
Demonstrated proficiency in personal computer hardware and operating
Experience with Microsoft Windows desktop, Macintosh desktop, Windows Server, Microsoft Office, and physical network wiring and connectivity
Excellent communication skills required to communicate with users at multiple levels of computer expertise

Customer service experience

Physical Demands

The physical requirements for this position may include, but are not necessarily limited to, the ability to use a computer, calculator, telephone, keyboard, and/or various types of office equipment.  Must be able to effectively communicate in verbal and written formats and satisfactorily perform the functions of this position.
